The Colorado Springs Football Club was established by Robert (Bob) Harrelson in late 1986 and participated in its first season in 1987. The teams' original name was the Olympians which had the Olympic Torch as its logo. Original team colors were Vegas Gold w/ Black trim and White. Legal issues concerning the Olympians name as being associated with the U. S. Olympic Center, also located in Colorado Springs, resorted to a name change prior to the inaugural season to its present name, the Colorado Springs Flames. The team retained its logo of a burning torch. Harrelson was the organizations first owner, player, and coach. The team completed its first season in the Colorado Football Conference (CFC) with a 6 - 3 - 1 record with losses only to the AFA Prep School, AFA JV and Metro State. Under Harrelson the team won back-to-back championships in 1992-1993 and again in 1997.
Harrelson sold the team in late 1997 to then Head Coach William (Bill) Jacobs who served as the team's Head Coach from 1995-1997. Under Jacobs' ownership Head Coach Fred W. Reese (1998-present) won two CFC Championships 1999, 2000. Reese's team completed the "Three-Peat" in 2001 when Kasey Cibart purchased the team from Jacobs. It was during this time that the team also completed a "Three-Peat" as the three time winner of the National Minor League "Battle of The Plains Bowl" games.
In 2001 Cibart and Reese changed the logo to its present looks of the letter 'F' in a fireball of flames. The team colors were also changed to a stronger Black and Red emphasis with Vegas Gold trim. In 2004 a group of players, coaches, and fans purchased the team from Cibart and established a Board of Trustees as the governing body of the organization with a General Manager as the head. The Flames are currently owned by ex player and HOF member, Fred Kiger. The team has won two CFC Championship (2009 - 2011) while in commission as a Board of Trustees. The Flames organization is one of two teams who has won eight CFC Championships.
